TRG Capital Management Inc. TRG was started by Thomas Gasper (the Founder and President) in 2008 as research intensive investment advisory firm that specializes in portfolio development using primarily individual stocks and fixed income, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and closed ended funds (CEFs). In addition, we may provide advice on alternative investments.

TRG maintains its primary business location in Raleigh, North Carolina and maintains a second location in Johnson City, New York. TRG is a North Carolina state registered Investment Adviser and has exceeded the de minimis number of clients in the states of North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, South Carolina, and Texas and is registered to conduct advisory business as required by each state’s registration requirements. Should TRG surpass the de minimis number of clients or establish an office in other State jurisdictions, TRG may be required to register in those states.

TRG’s advisory services include both discretionary and non-discretionary portfolio management services as well as portfolio management for privately offered funds. TRG does not prepare or offer tax advice, only suggestions that an investor may wish to consider and consult with their tax preparer prior to making any decisions.

Thomas R. Gasper, CPA

Founder, President and Chief Investment Officer

Thomas R. Gasper, CPA is the visionary thought-leader behind TRG Capital Management since its creation in 2008. For more than 25 years in the financial advisory field, Tom has been attracting smart and astute clients from around the United States . Caring and insightful with a deep understanding of the markets, Tom is truly a breakthrough investment thinker. Developing strategies for TRG’s clients, Tom’s theories and proprietary methodology are based on his long-time research of market history and focus on risk reduction and providing long-term sustainable investment income

Tom has been quoted in Morningstar Advisor, the Triangle Business Journal and has written the popular e-book, “Unraveling the Myth of “Free” Annuities and Mutual Funds”. Prior to his current role he was the Chief Investment Officer at Columbia Ridge Capital Management, Inc. Tom has held other roles such as Managing Partner / Co-Chief Investment Officer at both Geneva Roth of New England and KG of New England. Tom served on the United Methodist Homes Board and volunteered his time to help establish the St. Raphael Catholic School Endowment Fund. In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors of Achieve, as well as, the Victor and Esther Rozen Foundation. He succeeds in managing his professional life to allow the time support various charitable organizations.

Tom received an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Wilkes College in 1988 after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Wilkes College in 1987. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and North Carolina. Tom has completed the FINRA Series 65.


Brian J. Murphy, CFP

Chief Compliance and Operations Officer

Brian's primary responsibilities include ensuring firm compliance with all relevant federal and state securities regulations as well as enhancing the client service experience through implementation of operational efficiencies. He also provides portfolio management assistance for Tom Gasper as needed. Prior to joining TRG, Brian served as Chief Compliance Officer for Ridgeway Conger Advisory Services where he was instrumental in enhancing their Compliance program. Before joining Ridgeway Conger, Brian was employed by several Upstate New York Advisory firms functioning in both Compliance and Financial Adviser roles.

Brian attended Pace University in New York City with a concentration in Finance. He completed coursework from the American College and has earned the Certified Financial Planner™ designation. Brian has attained the rank of 4th degree (Master) black belt in the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do. He also served for 10 years as Treasurer and Board Member of the Central New York Chapter of the Autism Society of America.


George J. Gerner, Jr.

Investment Adviser Rerpesentative

George is a long-time client and has become an integral part of the TRG team. After retiring from a very successful career in the business world he was persuaded to become Director of Marketing and Investor Relations for the firm, a position he held until recently. George has managed most of the aspects of both large and small businesses. His professional acumen and communication skills make him uniquely qualified to explain the benefits of TRG’s services to prospective clients. George has played a vital role establishing TRG’s web site and marketing materials and is ready to further articulate the value of working with TRG.

George holds a Masters in Computer Science from Binghamton University and was a qualified Program Manager with IBM and Lockheed Martin. He managed his professional life to also allow time to coach local soccer, basketball and baseball youth teams. George currently works with clients throughout the eastern seaboard from Florida to New York.


Matt Horwedel

Investment Adviser Representative


As a Junior Trader and Portfolio Analyst at an investment management firm, Matt specializes in trades closely monitoring market trends and real-time data. With a focus on supporting our portfolio manager, Tom Gasper, he helps manage trade orders, track key risk metrics, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Matt also assists in portfolio analysis, helping to optimize trading strategies and ensure alignment with the firm’s risk management policies.

Matt attended Wilkes University with a B.S. in Financial Investments. He has passed the Series 65 exam administered by FINRA. While at Wilkes University, Matt managed to balance his degree alongside being a four-year soccer player, as well as helping coach a local youth soccer team.

 

Sarah Gasper

Operations Assistant


Sarah became a team member in 2023. Her primary responsibilities at TRG include researching financial data, operational support and other projects as needed to ensure a consistent client experience.

Sarah received a Bachelor’s degree in Business in Management at Southern Utah University. While completing her undergraduate work at SUU, she played collegiate volleyball. She broke the school record for most digs in a volleyball match and had a satisfying, successful career. Outside of working at TRG, Sarah enjoys hiking, baking, traveling and playing sand volleyball.
